A-Plant Hire Proof of Delivery (POD) System
Ashtead Plant Hire is one of the largest equipment rental companies in the world offering a vast range of equipment from power tools, cement mixers and compressors to excavators, scissor lifts and accommodation units. Project background
A-Plant recently invested heavily in mobile technology, issuing symbol MC70 Mobile Computers to each of their company’s drivers and fitters in order to capture real-time consignment data and customer signatures in the form of electronic proof of delivery (POD). Jade specified and developed the device project which is seen as a key strategic move for A-Plant to enhance customer service, increase efficiency and improve the overall accuracy of plant deliveries.
Jade were approached to manage the whole roll-out, which include the supply, configuration and installation of Symbol MC70 mobile computers into A-Plant Depots. Jade worked closely with A-Plants existing software partners to ensure a seamless integration with existing business systems.
A key requirement of the project was for A-plant to be able to manage the mobile computers from their central IT support facility. Jade enabled this by developing MSP, Symbols central management platform into A-Plants data centre in Tamworth, This was one of the first fully completed MSP installations in the UK allowing A-Plant to send configurations, updates and monitor the status of devices remotely at any time.
Jade were selected as it was critically important for A-Plant to have the fully functional solution in place, with total integration into legacy wireless systems, and existing applications within a very short space of time.
Now and Next
Ashtead Plant Hire and their customers have been extremely pleased with the results and benefits the system has provided. It is their intention to identify other areas of the business where mobile solutions could be utilised to the same success.
